Back in May we brought you news that Tyrese Gibson might step up and assume the mo-hawk, gold jewelry-wearing crown of ’80s hero B.A. Baracus (originally played by Mr. T) in John Singleton’s A-Team remake. Latino Review updates us today on that front with a eloquent quote from the former fashion model: “Soon as that script come back in and they tweak that thing out, we gonna go ahead and get movin’.” I can just see Tyrese turning to Murdoch’s character and retorting, “You crazy fool!,” can’t you? But I wouldn’t count your gold chains just yet, according to Latino Review. The outlet draws a somewhat stretch conclusion from Tyrese’s short comment on the subject - namely that since the actor didn’t reiterate assuming Mr. T’s role, he might actually play another character in the film. Does that rumor hold water? Maybe.
Tyrese certainly doesn’t present the same degree of physical presence as Mr. T, which is a hallmark of the Baracus character, so I’ve wondered myself if he’s the best guy for the role. Other candidates, such as the long-rumored Ice Cube and the somewhat fitting and oddly curious UFC title-winner Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, could be better choices at least physically speaking. What Tyrese definitely has going for him is his looks, which is why Latino Review speculates that perhaps he’ll assume the role of Templeton “Faceman” Peck. If you recall, Faceman gets his name because of his good looks, which goes hand-in-hand with his philandering and conning - a real smooth operator, as they say. That can totally be Tyrese. And I guess if they can turn Candyman white, they can turn Faceman black - that’s Hollywood for you.
We’ll have to see how this speculation pans out. I like Tyrese, so whatever role he plays will be great. And for all we know, this A-Team remake may still never get the greenlight anyway, so for now we’ll wait for more solid updates that hopefully will hit soon. Which character do you think he’s best suited for?
UPDATE: As we thought, any speculation whether Tyrese would not assume the role of B.A. Baracus was bupkis. Those wily devils at MTV caught up with the actor who confirmed, “It’s B.A. Baracus. I haven’t officially signed on - everything is still on standby - but the conversations coming my way feel right. I’m gonna try to put my touch on [the character]. I mean, I got the muscles!”
As for whether or not Tyrese would don the mow-hawk and all, he said, “I think at the end of the day, you wanna take all the elements that work and take your hands on something new. I don’t think B.A. will be pissed if we decide to change it up a bit.” Sounds good to me!
